Introduction to Python In-Person / Online
Overview: Although it would be near impossible to learn all of Python in only 2-hours, the goal of this workshop is to give students a taste of the wonders of programming by learning the world's most popular programming language.
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
> Understand the different types of variables in Python (data types and data structures)
> Write simple scripts
> Use control flow to automate your scripts
> Understand how to load and use libraries
Prerequisites:
- Students must have basic understanding and experience of programming & computer science.
- For students with no prior knowledge of programming, we recommend watching CrashCourse Computer Science by CrashCourse and Introduction to Programming by freeCodeCamp on Youtube before taking this workshop.
- Install Anaconda on your computer. You can find installation instructions here. Please contact us (cdsi.science@mcgill.ca) if you are having trouble with installation.
- If you attend the workshop in person, you must bring your own laptop.
Location: HYBRID. Online via Zoom, or in-person at Burnside Hall room 1104 (11th floor).
